Australia's passion for miniature painting is flourishing, thanks to the collaborative efforts of painting clubs, groups, collectives, and guilds that have been sprouting across the country.
These gatherings have become vibrant hubs for hobbyists to share their love for painting display miniatures, ultimately contributing to the growth and success of events such as the recently held ArcOpen in Victoria, Crimson Brush held in Canberra in January, up coming The Guild’s Inn in Sydney in July and Iron Cygnet later in the year in Western Australia.
So if you’re in Brisbane and are looking to get involved in a group then thankfully there’s a group you can join. In April 2024, miniature painting enthusiasts in Brisbane came together to celebrate the inaugural meeting of the Brisbane Display Painters Guild— a new community hoping to socialise miniature painting.
With more than 30 people turning up, the meeting marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Brisbane hobby scene, offering painters of all skill levels a space to learn, create, and connect.
Kickstarting a Community
The establishment of the Brisbane Display Painters Guild reflects the growing interest in miniature painting as a hobby and the desire for community among enthusiasts. The guild provides a welcoming environment where members can share their passion for painting, exchange tips and techniques, and collaborate on projects. Whether you're a seasoned painter or a novice just starting out, there's a place for you in the Brisbane Display Painters Guild.
Promoting the Hobby
In addition to hosting regular meetings and painting sessions, the Brisbane Display Painters Guild is actively
involved in promoting the hobby to the wider community.
Recently, members of the guild attended the Briscon gaming convention to showcase their work, recruit new members, and share their love of miniature painting with others.
By participating in events like Briscon, the guild hopes to inspire more people to explore the hobby and join their ranks.
The Joy of Miniature Painting
Painting miniatures is more than just a hobby—it's a therapeutic and rewarding creative outlet that allows you to express yourself artistically while enhancing your gaming experiences.
Whether you're painting characters for tabletop role-playing games, adding flair to your board game pieces, or creating stunning display pieces, miniature painting offers a unique blend of relaxation and artistic fulfillment.
Overcoming Challenges
While miniature painting can be a fulfilling hobby, it's not without its challenges.
Building up the necessary skills and acquiring the right tools can seem daunting, especially for beginners. However, the Brisbane Display Painters Guild is hoping to support aspiring painters on their journey.
Meetings are a great forum for sharing and learning.
Once a number of regular meetings are under their belt the group hope to run workshops, tutorials, and mentorship programs, were members of the guild can learn the ropes and develop their skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
