Forging it for Fun at Arcfest

Alright everyone, if you are planning to join us for ArcFest gaming for the first time you need to take a look at our Codex Fez and this article focuses on Rule #4!

Huge Fun! Player’s Choice winningArmy 2022 - Transformers meets Tau to give us the Tauformers!

Forging it for Fun - is the final of our four pillars of playing at our event.

When it comes to a tabletop extravaganza like Arcfest, we've got some guidelines in place to keep army lists in check. But really if you keep in mind that this Codex Fez Rule is all about building armies that are fun to play with and against then that’s what this all boils down to.

But all this space to write an article about it means that you should read everything we can say about making sure you and every one of your opponents have a blast and enjoy every bit of being a part of the Arc-community and enjoy playing some fun table top games.

So, here's the deal - when you're cooking up your army/force/squads, keep fun at the forefront! Yes - ArcFest wants your creations to bring joy while you build and paint them but most importantly that you bring that onto the table.

Metawatching can be a pastime in its own right… but true ArcArmies are built of different stuff!

So now, let's talk army building.

Arcfest is not about designing an army that is just focused on being fit for winning - there’s other events every other weekend of the year across the country and worldwide where you can play and win, win, win, if that’s your jam!

But for this event it's about crafting something special.

We really love it when people pick models that tell a story, match a theme, or dive deep into the lore – whether it's your own creation or something woven by the masterminds behind the scenes.

At it’s heart what we get is our most dedicated players involved in creating an experience that gets everyone hooked – and yes, that definitely includes your opponents!

Sure, obliterating opponents with ruthless precision might give you a thrill - but let's not forget the other side of the coin – the enjoyment of everyone who comes to our event matters too!

Crush their army if you must - but be prepared to not top the charts at the end of the event…

Over the years of Arc40k, we've learned a thing or two. Yes we’ve all played and won accolades for our armies and games. So our advice is to steer clear of chasing the so-called 'meta' or relying on internet 'power lists'. Trust us, that's a road where less-than-awesome games occur for everyone involved.

No one wants to see their entire army vanish in the blink of an eye or face off against units that seem like they've got an invisible shield. It's just not were a weekend of fun lives.

Rule of Cool - Tabletop Time meet Squidmar Miniatures with an epic battlefield at Arc40k 2023-ready for some awesome battles to be fought!

And let's not forget, armies with a zillion models can slow things down (Ok, maybe not a zillion… but more than 60 models makes a hoard at 1350 pt) and this is a sure fire way to leave your opponent feeling less than thrilled as you chew valuable gaming time moving models, rolling buckets of dice and getting bogged down with just too many things for you to manage.

Orcs can often be fielded as a frustrating horde - Mike Consto’s Best Painted Army 2023 is far from a Hoard - here’s an example of anamazing army- So be prepared for maximum impact and finishing every battle round.

Just save those epic hordes for storytelling sessions or laid-back matches with your gaming buddies who share the passion for the hard slog. At a structured event like Arcfest, where time is of the essence, scheduled extremely tightly, and requiring two players to complete a game in an limited timeframe than everyone need to be aiming to get the most out of every moment.

Also, you need to remember, everyone is investing a ton of time and effort to be part of an event like Arcfest. The goal? A weekend jam-packed with fantastic gaming moments.

Think about it – some folks travel a long way to join in the fun. It's only fair that everyone's dedication translates into an awesome and enjoyable weekend. If not, then who's responsible?

That's where your opponents come in. They're the ones who face your army on the battlefield, and they're the best judges of how much fun it was to play against. And in the end they'll be the ones to decide if your force was designed for an awesome and engaging experience.

Do you play with or against forces that leave a trail of unsatisfied opponents? Well that doesn't jive with the spirit of Arcfest.

That’s why, thanks to the Forged for Fun scoring system, your army gets a rating that seriously impacts your overall standing. Trust us, being a champion isn't just about winning games; it's about making sure everyone had a blast facing off against that force in battles filled with heroic do or die moments. If you’re not creating war stories in your battles - then you’re missing the moment where you can create gaming memories.

So, here's the lowdown: play for fun, be a good sport, put some love into painting your army, and bring a force Forged for Fun. That's the recipe for becoming a true champion and making sure everyone at Arcfest has an absolutely stellar time.

After all, the goal is to have a blast and create gaming memories that'll last a lifetime!
