Wargaming Clubs - where strategy meets a social network and tiny toy soldiers often reign supreme!
If you've ever felt the urge to immerse yourself in the strategy and tactics of warhammer, or somewhere to put your painted miniatures to the test then look no further than a wargaming club. Clubs across the country and around the world offer a haven for those fully nerdy Warhammer impulses and a place were like-minded individuals, who enjoy discussing everything from gaming and scenery making, through to modeling and painting techniques.
Westgate Wargaming is a prime example of a successful Wargaming Club. Founded by visionary hobbyist Mitch Gibson!
Mitch was inspired by a friend's club in Sydney. He wanted what they had and decided to establish a similar club in his hometown of Melbourne.
The idea of combining local craft beer and wargaming isn’t a new one - the home of Warhammer has Bugman’s Bar doesn’t it?
But on the opposite side of the world Mitch was inspired to create something uniquely Melbourne and Westgate Wargaming was the answer.
Luckily for Mitch, The Two Birds Brewery agreed to host the club - providing the most important ingredients - a venue and beer!
Also, thanks to the generosity good friend and prominent wargaming community member, Adam Trpcevski, Westgate Wargaming was able to launch with a wide range of excellent terrain for their games.
The club began with just six members playing Middle Earth. As the word spread and the beers kept flowing then more and more players joined in. Seriously thought a great venue, great resources and a passionate membership are pretty much what all clubs need to sow the seeds for success - the beers are just the foam on top!
From it’s humble but well drafted beginnings Westgate Wargaming has grown into a vibrant community of more than 25 regular members. The range of wargaming at the club is far flung. They enjoy playing games of 40k, Kill Team, Horus Heresy, Middle Earth Strategy Battle Games, Star Wars Legion, Marvel Crisis Protocol, Malfaux, and even Mordheim.
The club is currently consumed and focused on running a massive campaign for Mordheim - which is a huge hit with its members.
Westgate Gaming Club meets every Wednesday from 5.00 - 10.00 pm at the Two Birds Brewery, 136 Hall St, Spotswood, Victoria.
Its’ lively atmosphere is captured in a podcast recorded on-site. This podcast features guest members discussing their hobbies and provides a glimpse into the club's unique ambiance. Memberships are also available, offering players special benefits like table reservations and drink discounts.
Wargaming clubs like Westgate Wargaming offer a chance to embrace one's inner warhammer-nerd and have fun while doing so. These clubs provide a sense of community and a space for gamers to explore their passion for miniature wargaming. So why not grab your toy soldiers and join the fray?
