Writer's picture: HobbyCrusAiderHobbyCrusAider

The Australian miniature painting community has welcomed a thrilling new event to its calendar: Brisbane Anvil.  This inaugural painting competition is set to take place alongside Australia’s largest Age of Sigmar teams event, the Runeaxe Team Championship, in November.

With the backing of the newly formed Brisbane Display Painting Guild and support from prominent figures in the Australian painting scene, Brisbane Anvil is poised to become a cornerstone event for hobbyists and artists alike.

Uniting the Community

Brisbane Anvil aims to celebrate the extraordinary talent and passion within the miniature painting and modelling community. By providing a platform for artists to showcase their best work, the event hopes to inspire and challenge participants, fostering growth and refinement in their skills.

This event is not just a competition; it’s a community-building endeavor designed to create a lively and thriving network of miniature painters.

Event Details

Date and Venue:The Brisbane Anvil will be held on November 2-3, 2024, in conjunction with the Runeaxe Team Championship in Brisbane.

In addition to the standard awards, judges will also give commendations for entries that deserve recognition but fall short of medal standards. Special awards include:

  • Best in Show - Judges' Choice

  • Best in Show - People's Choice

  • The Runic Moose, selected by the Runeaxe Team

  • Additional awards may be introduced as the event approaches.

Categories

  • Single Miniature: For any single human-sized fantasy or futuristic miniature up to 40mm scale, including those mounted on creatures.

  • Large Figure: For large models, vehicles, single large monsters, and large-scale models or busts, including mounted characters.

  • Open Category: For entries that don't fit the other two categories, such as duels, dioramas, units, or squads.

A Collaborative Effort

Zack Watson, organizer of the Brisbane Anvil, has teamed up with Gabe from RuneAxe to allow a venue, and the Brisbane Display Painting Guild to promote and support this exciting new venture.

The Guild, which held its first meeting in April 2024 with more 30 attendees, has quickly become a hub for painters to share their passion and skills. Their presence at the Briscon gaming convention, where they recruited new members, underscores their commitment to growing the community.

Join the Movement

Brisbane Anvil is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of the artistry and creativity that define the miniature painting community.

Whether you’re an experienced painter or a newcomer to the hobby, this event offers an opportunity to connect with fellow enthusiasts, showcase your work, and be inspired by the incredible talent on display.

Mark your calendars for November 2-3, 2024, and prepare to join the ranks of Australia’s finest miniature painters at Brisbane Anvil. Together, let’s forge a new legend in the world of miniature painting.
