The Australian miniature painting community has welcomed a thrilling new event to its calendar: Brisbane Anvil. This inaugural painting competition is set to take place alongside Australia’s largest Age of Sigmar teams event, the Runeaxe Team Championship, in November.
With the backing of the newly formed Brisbane Display Painting Guild and support from prominent figures in the Australian painting scene, Brisbane Anvil is poised to become a cornerstone event for hobbyists and artists alike.

Event Details
Date and Venue:The Brisbane Anvil will be held on November 2-3, 2024, in conjunction with the Runeaxe Team Championship in Brisbane.
Entry Rules:
$5 submission fee per category entered.
No limit on the number of categories entered, but a maximum of three submissions per category.
All entries must be painted solely by the entrant and must be submitted by 12 pm on Saturday, November 2nd.
No mail-in entries are accepted; participants must be present to compete.
Entries must be collected by 4 pm on Sunday, November 3rd.
By entering, participants agree to have their work photographed for promotional purposes.
Judging and Awards
Brisbane Anvil will employ an open judging system, with three categories each having three standards: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. There is no limit to the number of awards in each category; if multiple entries meet the gold standard, all will receive gold medals.
In addition to the standard awards, judges will also give commendations for entries that deserve recognition but fall short of medal standards. Special awards include:

Categories
Single Miniature: For any single human-sized fantasy or futuristic miniature up to 40mm scale, including those mounted on creatures.
Large Figure: For large models, vehicles, single large monsters, and large-scale models or busts, including mounted characters.
Open Category: For entries that don't fit the other two categories, such as duels, dioramas, units, or squads.
A Collaborative Effort
Zack Watson, organizer of the Brisbane Anvil, has teamed up with Gabe from RuneAxe to allow a venue, and the Brisbane Display Painting Guild to promote and support this exciting new venture.
The Guild, which held its first meeting in April 2024 with more 30 attendees, has quickly become a hub for painters to share their passion and skills. Their presence at the Briscon gaming convention, where they recruited new members, underscores their commitment to growing the community.
